Promote the development of employability: a challenge for individuals and for organizations

Abstract

Within an increasingly fluctuating environment, many companies try to direct their strategies towards seeking flexibility in all fields. Managing the employees’ employability is one of the major conditions for this flexibility. This, nonetheless, requires a state of mind involving the responsibility of both the company and the individuals.
Based on an empirical quantitative survey with a sample of 224 executive in France, this article measures the main dimensions of employability and main factors which can develop it. The article, consequently, provides managers with key management tools in order to achieve sustainable employability and suggests ways of adjusting these tools to the dimensions of employability they want to encourage.
