This study examines the extent to which stakeholder theory can account for recognition of the suffering in situations of workplace harassment. It is based on a sample of twenty-five cases of people facing a case of harassment. Recognizing the limits of stakeholder theory in its apprehension of suffering in situations of workplace violence, the authors mobilize the contributions of the moral philosophy of Levinas. The results show firstly that there is a sudden awareness of the weakness of those involved in the conflict, beyond the pursuit of interests that fuel the conflict. This result is then discussed in light of work on workplace violence and trivialization.
