Article: The excess of knowledge through the innovation process: Conceptualization and key issues

Abstract

Knowledge creation and sharing are being the core of innovation schemes. They contribute to the process of creation of value, through the process of knowledge transfer. The knowledge is enriched and accumulated with its using and, one time transferred, it cannot be recovered. The transfer is an irreversible mechanism. But, all knowledge produced in an innovation project is not used, hence an overlearning effect or knowledge in excess. This excess become with a selection, from a process of adjustment between actors concerning the functions and the characteristics of the project, an excess of knowledge they decide to stock partly, for a possible future use. The production of knowledge is more and more intensive faced with the increasing complexity of the products. A part of the knowledge produced is lost, because its life expectancy is limited due to economic, societal and technologic elements. The aim of this research is to assign a theoretical approach of the excess of knowledge concept, because the literature is not so much interested about it. We approach the excess of knowledge through its conceptualization and its characteristics. Then, we identify the key factors which are conditioning the actor behavior of partners in the collective action about its appropriation.

Hector CASTANEDA est  Enseignant chercheur à Euromed management. Professeur  de Management de l’Innovation Technologique à KEDGE BS, il associe dans ses thématiques d’enseignement les notions managériale et technologique. Après une formation et une expérience professionnelle en Génie Civil  et plus tard  en  Génie Productique, il a  adopté définitivement le Management dans le monde de la technologie. Consolidant son expérience avec un MBA à l’ESCPM et plus tard un Doctorat en Management de l’Innovation à l’Université de Nice, il se consacre à la pédagogie avec comme sujets de recherche l’excédent de connaissances et la capitalisation de la connaissance tacite dans la conception de produits.

Michel PENDARIES est Enseignant chercheur à Euromed management, Professeur en Contrôle de gestion à KEDGE BS et Enseignant chercheur associé au Cret-Log, il a exercé pendant une vingtaine d’année des fonctions de Contrôleur de gestion puis de Directeur financier et de Consultant dans des groupes industriels et financiers internationaux. Doté d’un DEA en Performances des organisations de l’Université Paris Dauphine puis d’un Doctorat en Sciences de Gestion soutenu à la faculté économique et de gestion d’Aix-Marseille, il s’est consacré depuis 10 ans à l’enseignement en Finance et en Contrôle de gestion ainsi qu’à la recherche sur les systèmes de pilotage et de contrôle de la performance des organisations.  Il poursuit une recherche transdisciplinaire, en croisant des thématiques comme l’innovation, la connaissance, le comportement organisationnel et le pilotage de la performance.
